Commercial Design

Designing for businesses of all forms; corporate, retail, and/or hospitality. These spaces are designed for the people, completely accessible and universal. Starting with the company, a concept is founded and brought to life within the space.

Youth Help Center

Spread Your Wings is an educational youth substance centre that helps youth find help and resources about substance use. Teens aged 14 to 19 are welcome to use the services provided such as therapy, group interaction, educational sessions, and helpful packages. Parents are also welcome to attend informational presentations and educational sessions.

Mimicking the cycle of metamorphosis, this youth substance education centre is a place for personal change and growth. Starting as a troubled youth, maturing and developing, and flying freely. The cocoon stage encompasses the feeling of safety and security, wrapping into a warm swaddle during the growth process. The cocoon provides a textured, translucent shell that allows for the play of light and layering.

This space is the cocoon, a safe place of refuge, to learn and grow. At the core, it is a soft, predictable, and repeating form that provides comfort on all scales - from singular chairs to whole rooms. Areas are made to feel intimate with the warm colours of butterflies on multiple planes bringing the volume of the space closer to the grounding floor. Mimicking the layering shell of the cocoon, flowing shapes and lines follow the walls, providing pathways throughout the building. Windows are incorporated into all main walls to transfer the daylight from the exterior through the interior “shell” to provide natural light to all guests. Every part of this space is designed to create a safe space for the youth to find comfort until they are grown and ready to fly free.

Corporate Office

This tech office was created for LEGUME, an online farmer’s market. Focusing on human connection mimicking the real-life connection you get at a farmers market, resembling moments like picking out your own vegetables and speaking to the farmer directly. The inspiration for this project was the honeycomb and its connecting structures that make it stronger.

The connecting structures of the honeycomb evoke the feeling of community and familiarity throughout the design. Soft definition is prevalent like the honey organically flowing throughout the structure, capturing golden refracted light.

Focusing on the blurred lines between departments, with points of connection, to emphasize the feeling of community. Rich, warm hues meet upholstered furniture, adding a soft comfort to the space. The balanced use of vertical and horizontal lines will guide the eye, while natural materials and organic shapes anchor the essence of nature within the space.

Restaurant

The Lemon Tree Restaurant and Bar is a full-service restaurant designed to be located on Granville Island, Vancouver.

Inspired by California's cuisine, fresh vegetables and citrus fruits are paired with Granville Island's seafood and prepared using simple cooking techniques to create the menu. The California Coast lemon trees guide the experience for the space. Focusing on the grounding, textured trunk of the tree, organically flowing branches, and the overhead canopy of leaves pouring golden sunlight through. The golden lemons provide a subtle texture on the outside and a soft, glowing, radial form inside.

Expressed throughout the space, the organic shapes and layered textures of the tree and its fruit take form within the main design pieces of the bar, booths, and banquettes. The play of light and shadow is depicted through a subtle golden illumination throughout, contrasting with the dark, grounding interior details such as millwork and tiling. Areas are visually separated by changing ceiling designs, each depicting a different element of a tree. The design encapsulates the experience of being under the lemon trees.

Retail

This retail store is for Adept, a sustainable clothing brand. Mirroring Adept’s philosophies, this place empowers the confidence the brand, materials, and clothing share with all who enter. While demonstrating an emphasis on sustainability with natural materials, the space is united by the range of apparent tones and textures throughout. The repetition of vertical and diagonal lines within the interior reinforces the sophisticated and powerful dynamic that confidence gives to the brand.

Reception

This reception desk was designed for a family law office. The warm embrace of a hug is the inspiration for this focal point. The curved form mimics the appearance of arms crossing around a loved one. It provides a feeling of safety, acceptance, and neutrality within the space, The desk is large in scale and dynamic to emphasize a hug's powerful source of healing. Clients entering this space are not in great situations so they are welcomed into the office with a big hug.
